Body and Joint Aches caused by Antidepressants?

Posted by Mtom on November 19, 2019, at 9:15:11

Has anyone had body, joint, muscle aches caused by antidepressants? I've read these are an "uncommon" side effect of some. I have Lupus so I do get joint pain and swelling on and off, but this is different. Affecting some of the same joints as Lupus does, but not all of them - usually when my Lupus is flaring there are a number of joints that all flare at the same time. Also feeling pain in areas not usually affected by Lupus e.g. shoulders (joints and muscles).

I had these when on Escitalopram, started tapering off that some time ago and at same time started low dose mirtazapine, titrating dose slowly up. The pains went away for a while, but as I increased Mirtazapine dose have come back.

I'm starting to think it's not Lupus flares, it's the medications. Again have read this is an "uncommon" side effect (based on manufacturer's info - and I've found the Pharma companies tend to downplay or underestimate side effects in general versus post-marketing research - which tends to be limited - and versus anecdotal reports).

Interested in experiences and if the pain eases over time. Thanks!
