Hello all.
I have been on parnate (resumed it) for 18 months, an now take 140mg a day. It has been the only agent which has given me a faultlessly reliable "bottom" below which my depression does not sink. It has done wonders for movement and anhedonia. But my affective, cognitive, motivational powers remain very flat.
I was supposed to be adding vyvanse but, because I broke my ankle and required surgery and weeks of rehab, my clinic (UPENN, under Michael Thase's supervision)said they could not treat me unless I could attend regularly.
So now I'm without a psychiatrist with any adequate expertise who can accept my insurance. I'm using up the last prescriptions of my parnate.
What I decided to do was, as of today, add 100mg of over-the-counter 5-HTP to my parnate. I must say I am feeling a moderate boost: I have done my clothes washing which I had not touched for over a month; I have been writing emails; I cleaned my room up.
My concern is: is 5-HTP safe with parnate (especially at 140mg)? There is the issue of serotonin toxicity. I've also read about cases of mania and hypomania. Plus cardiac effects.
Would appreciate any feedback. Thanks a lot.
