hi. i cannot really answer that for you, sadly. what else are you on?
the thing about my limited experience w/ tca drugs...
for me, they were/are more effective, more quickly, than the more modern drugs, especially when combined with an amphetamine (Adderall, in my case). However, I also had some anger and hostility and general...
activation, I suppose. Not over-stimulation per se, but not good stuff along with the (much needed) mood elevation.
its worth noting that back in the day, doctors would only give the people on tca drugs very small quantities at a time until they were fairly well along in treatment. this was because of the increased risk of suicide early on during treatment.
oh, and...if you have bipolar, especially type I or something in Schizoaffective land, tca drugs might be a bit too much. from what little i understand of the available data, the tca drugs are associated with more frequent+severe switching into (Hypo)mania than most more modern antidepressants (although I think Effexor is pretty bad, too).
wish I could be more helpful. can you tolerate neuroleptics/tranquilizers? Not long term, but maybe just short term, to help you simmer down a bit. Just a thought...
