This kind of thinking is exactly how I used to think for years and years. But it didn't get me or anyone else anywhere. I knew every receptor, every enzyme, every agonist and antagonist, etc. But it's all way too much for anyone of us to even pretend to be able to piece together. For every one thing we focus on, there are 100 other things attached to it, dependent on it, influencing it, that we totally ignore.
The same people who were here 15 years ago talking detailed scientific brain stuff, trying to figure it all out, the armchair quarterbacks, they are still suffering, didn't get better, never figured it all out. Still studying details. Still not well. I was one of them. Until somebody convinced me I had Lyme not just depression.
It's just my opinion, that if you help the entire body take care of itself, the troubling symptoms lessen or go away. What I mean by that are 3 things: 1.Antimicrobials (anti bacterials, antivirals, antifungals, antiparasites). 2.Anti-inflammatories (wide spectrum multiple pathways, focus on stopping cytokine cascades which lead to psychiatric symptoms). 3. Anti-toxin accumulation (heavy metals, plastics, pesticides, gluten debris, inflammation debris, dead bacteria body parts debris, etc.).
This is in fact how the many varied, profound multiple symptom clusters patients suffer in tick-born infections are cured. There is no way cure happens by focusing on any single pillar. It requires a systemic whole-body way of thinking. Because what is happening in the brain is totally a result of what is happening in the body. Totally.When the body is assisted with the above strategies, the things we talk about, and the ones we don't even know about, will automatically take care of themselves. You won't need to focus on AMPA or NMDA or 5HT or DA or whatever. None of it. Your body is an expert at fixing itself - if given the right assistance.
Chlamydia is an example. When the immune system fights it, and when it is killed, it creates a chemical that hits the receptors in the brain with greater affinity than our own mood chemicals do. The result is a terrible anxiety. The psychiatrist diagnoses you will anxiety and panic attacks. You get Xanax or Paxil. They sort of cover up the anxiety. But meanwhile it's actually all getting worse and worse because those do nothing against Chlamydia and it is growing bigger....eventually you get poop out...and the story goes round and round and round....try another med....and another...maytbe add in a new one....or another one....round and round....
In terms of the cannibinoid system, we know that about 15% of the population carry a certain gene that makes them susceptible to cannabis-induced psychosis or anxiety. But for the other 85%, there are reports after reports after reports of people experiencing improved quality of life and even total remission, with just cannabinoid products. Digging into the details does nothing to help that process. Trial and error is the only thing. If something isn't working, you have to abandon it and try something different. Not something similar. Something different.
People I know who have experienced great improvements or cures have a lot of items in their toolbox. A med or two or three are not going to get many people to the finish line. That's just a sad reality that doesn't need to be tolerated.
In the meantime there are good choices of psych meds to help with ongoing symptomatic relief for anxiety or depression. They are not likely to cure. But they can buy you some time and some quality of life to proceed ahead with more comprehensive plans to get totally well.
