How close are we to becoming the same thing? Not too close, actually.
However...
It appears to me that the threads that remind me of ASD involve the same person over and over again. These threads are ugly and have littered the Psycho-Babble board in a manner that has driven people away. As much as it pains me to say this, a single poster has orchestrated the demise of Psycho-Babble. The Dark Tetrad is winning because people continue to take the bait and fall into the trap of creating threads where no one bothers to reset the subject line. All I see is this one person's name in the subject lines polluting the board. *Narcissism*. This is a very sophisticated strategy. *Machiavellian*.
So, are we going to let the troll continue to destroy our community by engaging him? I don't bother opening most of his posts anymore. His subject lines remain blue. I am wary of his preying upon new posters who are unfamiliar with the troll's history. This has been happening more often as his posts have become increasingly ignored. He has no regard for how his behaviors will hurt others. He has no conscience. *Psychopathy*. In fact, that's part of the fun. *Sadist*.
ASD was unmoderated and mostly a free-for-all flame-fest when I was there last many years ago. Language was pretty raw. There were regular trolls who became fixtures of the community. However, the serious people managed to ignore them and have productive conversations, but they were hard to come by. You can find alt.support.depression as a group on Google. It has pretty much died. I miss Usenet. Before the flamers and trolls came along, the ASD newsgroup was a very informative and nurturing place.
By the way, as the troll is increasingly ignored, the first reaction on the part of the troll may be to post all over the place out of desperation. Again, if we don't feed the troll, he will realize that he is nothing.
