So, as I wrote some days ago, I was thinking of augmenting Aptiom for some breakthrough rage/irritablity symptoms and to get perfect control over it. I was kind of wondering, I've often heard about Topiramate being a 'mellow-out' drug that has good reports on anecdotal experiences on sites like crazymeds for rage. I was wondering, aside from it's anti-seizure action, whether it might be possible that the wonderful effect on rage it has might be coming from it's effect on the basolateral amygdala from antagonism of postsynaptic Gluk1 kainate receptors.. because the amygdala is supposed to be kind of involved in rage? Is this action unique to Topiramate this postsynaptic Gluk1 antagonism or is it found in other AEDs.. are there other drugs? This topiramate thing seems to have a lot of side effects. Also, (I actually don't know how any of these things work so need a kind answer :P), would antagonists and negative modulators work differently in this regard? And I'm really interested to know what other drugs are out there.
