Hmmm, vortioxetine's SSRI-like effect is indeed its most potent effect, but it does act at various serotonin receptors as well. The 5-HT1a partial agonism may be useful for both depression and anxiety, but may cause dizziness and nausea. 5-HT7 antagonism may increase the antidepressant effect.
Overall, efficacy seems to be similar to SSRIs, but this doesn't mean it won't be better (or worse) for individual patients. The risk of sexual side effects is probably lower than with SSRIs.
I think vortioxetine is a more novel choice than yet another plain SSRI, but time will tell how useful it will really be.
