Minimal experience with it myself, except with sleeping pills. Restoril--even the lower dose, 15mgs--worked better than high dose sonata or ambien. Those z hypnotics aren't technically benzos, but they're benzo-ish enough to be converted into diazepam equivalents, apparently.
Anyway, even though benzos are similar, there are differences. 2mgs/Klonopin=40mgs/diazepam, true, but what if the diazepam works better because of its unique profile (increased muscle relaxant properties, more sedation, etc.) ?
Then there's trying to get people on old school Xanax stabilized on something else. Probably a good idea. Even if the equivalent dose is the same, you should probably have less inter-dose anxiety and less dosage escalation...that's a good thing.
Personally, I did find that multi-doses of Ativan worked better than 2 doses Klonopin. Hits faster, doesn't last all day, less mood dampening.
Don't give up hope! Keep in mind that its kind of like switching antipsycohtics. Yes, x mgs/Zyprexa technically= x mgs/any number of other drugs, but they're still **different drugs**, so YMMV, right?
