So, I took Periactin 2 and a half years ago for about 5 months. For about the first year stopping Periactin I had vivid dreams pretty much every night. And now to this day I still have vivid/memorable dreams maybe maybe 3 times a week. Sometimes even when falling asleep like 10 minutes I have a dream.
I have read about "REM rebound" after stopping certain psychiatric meds. I supposed that is what I'm experiencing. But I had to stop taking Periactin because I got to such a high dose, smaller doses don't help anymore. And ever since I've been off it I've regressed very slowly back to being anhedonic and dysfunctional.
Anyway, might it be a good idea for me to consider something to suppress REM sleep, which is where dreaming occurs. I've read REM sleep isn't as restful as what ever the other forms of sleep there are. I have the medication named Xyrem in mind. I know ssri's suppress REM, but I can't stand ssri's.
I may be going to a sleep specialist soon, but I just wanted to see what others on here think.
