Regarding safety, I nearly died twice when I attempted suicide while off medication.
Seriously, do you feel like someone NOT taking an antidepressant who is in a major depressive episode and contemplating suicide is safe?
Regarding "success" ... yes, Parnate is successful for me and remarkably so; it's the side effect profile that requires additional medication. The whole point of the other medication I take is so that I can remain on Parnate.
I also take Klonopin for night terrors regarding my father's death (I have post-traumatic grief or complicated grief) and that's the one medication that I hope, with therapy, to be able to stop taking one day. I do not like the idea of being dependent on a benzodiazepine, personally, but I also don't like the idea of waking up screaming for my father and reliving his death in such vivid detail it feels like it's happening all over again.
I think you're confusing safety with efficacy, IMHO.
