Hi Teresa, it looks like you might be a new member here on PB, and if that is the case, welsome! PB is a great place to get info and support.

As far as your questions go, I can't answer them specifically, but I can tell you that I had ect, and that I am now completely against it. It not only did not help me, it made my depression/anxieety much worse. I put up a post here on PB to get others' opinions, and almost everyone agreed with me that it was a bad option. If you scroll up the page a bit you'll find vestiges of the post. But, in short, I did research (unfortunately AFTER I had the ect), and found out that it not only causes sometimes severe memory problems, but that it has been proven to cause cognitive impairment, it has been proven to cause brain damage, and if it does work, which in most cases it really does not seem to, but if it does work, the effect only lasts a very short time and patients have to have maintenance treatment every month, which only leads to more cost, more memory problems, more cognitive impairment, and more potential brain damage. And in a lot of these cases the maintenance treatment is not even effective.

OK, rant over, but as you can see, I'm really anti-ect, and I have found that most people who have had it are too. Of course, this is just my opinion, though the research I found did come from peer-reviewed studies in reputable journals. I regret I did not save the links so you could read them yourself.

In the end, it is your and your pdoc's decision, but one thing I do highly recommend is you doing some research of your own.

If you have any questions, you have but to ask!
I wish you the best,
Kat
