I'm not quite sure exactly how it works, but it's very similar to Neurontin (gabapentin). Lyrica is basically a newer and stronger version.
I would try Neurontin first (it's generic, too). It's used for so many things--neuropathy, sleep, mood stabilizer, anti-anxiolytic and more...
Some people seem to like it for anxiety. It doesn't help mine, though--I have a paradoxical reaction to it and get manic. In this respect, it boosted my mood (too much, though, like a euphoric buzz). But again, that seems to be a very uncommon reaction.
