I feel for you and your suffering. Somehow a lot of pdoc's don't understand that when a person is suffering they want help NOW!
I think that going to your gp to get the rx has a high potential of backfiring. Even if your gp will play along, I think your pdoc will be angered by it. She might even use it as an excuse to stop working with you. If you want to keep working with this pdoc, it is too big of a risk.
I have recently started on Lamictal after doing a lot of research on it. One thing about Lamictal is that it seems to be better for preventing depressive relapses than dragging you out of a current episode. Also, you have to take a few weeks to get up to a therapeutic dose (I suspect you knew that though).
