For me, "benzodiazepine" has never been a dirty word. In my experience, they are incredibly useful drugs with a favorable safety and side effect profile. Dependence? So what? If you need it long-term, what's the difference? There are a few methods to ease withdrawal if that becomes necessary. Using an anticonvulsant like Trileptal is one strategy.

One disadvantage of BZDs is that a minority of people will become addicted to them and experience cravings and a psychological compulsion. This involves a biological substrate that promotes addiction. In addition, some people will experience behavioral disinhibition.

Have you considered Nardil or a tricyclic?
