Temazepam is the usualy sleep med in Australia, Ambien got a bad reputation here due to episodes of "sleep driving" and stuff.
It is more slowly adsorbed than other drugs, so you need to take it an hour before bedtime if you need help getting to sleep.
It generaly helps keep you asleep all night, and causes no hangover (in the Fauklands war british pilots would take 10-20mg of temazepam, sleep for 8 hours, then fly supersonic jets off of aircraft carriers)
Philipa, ask your doctor for a script, it might be just what you need.
An alternative for you might be to ditch your Valium and take say 15-30mg of Tranxene at bedtime, this would help you sleep through the night, and also keep you calm and relaxed throughout all the next day.
What benzo are you on now, and what dose?
