These are the same complaints made by non-psychiatrist physicians.
"Wow this is scarey and sad."
What is scary and sad are the writers who regurgitate this stuff.
There is a long line of medical school applicants that will take their place. The shortage of psychiatrists has more to do with professional medical organizations and the decisions of those who run medical school programs than it has to do with anything else.
Thanks for giving me a chance to say this Phillipa. These types of articles have been irritating me, for the reason above, for a number of years now. Sometimes, what follows these types of articles, are more articles that use scare tactics to promote free tuition for medical school students.
My psychiatrist (a true professional) loves his job very much. Even after 40 plus years.
