Generaly the TCA's (except clomipramine) work more on noradrenalin than seretonin, where as the SNRI's tend to work more on seretonin than noradrenalin...... so they are similar but different.
You can get a ballanced SNRI effect by taking Zoloft and Nortriptyline together at the same time, say Zoloft 50-100mg per day, nortriptyline 75-100mg per day
