I've been on selegiline (50mg oral) for about six weeks and I started feeling the effects 2 weeks ago. It's working quite well but there are significant side effects. I seem to be posting here about once a week to report the latest problem and ask for advice - Insomnia, Increased Anxiety, Attacks of Fatigue, Stupor. I realize that I'll have to be patient and wait at least three months to see how it all plays out. I'll do that, and I'll keep posting my experiences along the way.
So, the latest - urinary side effects. Yesterday the anticholinergic/antimuscarinic side effects kicked in and my bladder started to misbehave. My mouth was dry so I'd drink some water, then I'd immediately have to urinate. (I know the biochemical mechanisms involved here quite well since...) This is the problem that drove me off ssri's, snri's, and wellbutrin. They caused a lot of pain in the pelvic region along with the urinary disfunction. I'm concerned that yet again I'll be forced off an effective AD (and selegiline is the best so far in 18 yrs) due to urinary problems.
Does anyone have a story about this side effect eventually subsiding or being countered by some other drug? It would certainly ease my mind a bit. Thanks.
