In reply to Doc, I found something that works, now what?, posted by linkadge on October 8, 2010, at 15:03:08
Yeah, I've done that a bunch of times. I've thrown away a bunch of meds. Others, that were at least partially successful, I've kept.
I actually just did that yesterday and today by adding some old Serzone I had with my Wellbutrin and Remeron.
I'll tell my doc I have done it. I've got another week til next appointment, so by then, I'll know whether feeling good on day one of that experiment was a flash in the pan or not. I'm sure he'll not be overly pleased that I do things like that, but I've tried practically everything, so if I happen upon something that works, I'll push for it.
Of course, you always run the risk of your doc getting PO'd and dropping you (that's never happened to me).
So much of trying meds is a hope and a prayer anyway, as each of our systems is unique. If a med combo, or cocktail at least makes sense theoretically, and there's little to no risk mixing the meds you're trying, I see little harm in trying various things together, particularly if you've already tried a great many of these things as monotherapy.
Anyway, good luck to you. Hope your doctor is understanding.
