NO! Your pain is NOT just psychological. What you experienced was a wonderful distraction from it. There's a powerful emotional connection there, and it's a gift when we're able to distance ourselves from chronic or recurring pain and instead be so immersed in something - or someone - else that we aren't conscious of that pain.
It's great that you and your friend were able to connect so well that you could leave your pain behind for a while.
