Nardil, SSRIs, Libido + stuff

Posted by phil1909 on May 20, 2010, at 16:53:15

I'm 8 days into Nardil treatment and things look promising.

Started on 45mg with no side effects and gradually upped dose to 60mg. My libido remarkably returned after having been long gone whilst on 200mg of zoloft for 2 or so years, and prior to that, various doses for varying periods on Paxil, Prozac & Effexor.

Some 'strange or alien' feelings of motivation, and energy/alertness have returned which I have not felt for many many years. Also, anxiety/fear-like feelings & thoughts seem curiously very subtle only.

During the period on several SSRIs, libido would come and go, but never remain. Depression was somehow lessened through what seemed like thoughts being supressed (kind of like the effect of some anti-psychotics one psych thought he would try me on), though anxiety was never treated well during this period and hence my reliance on Xanax, Valium, etc.

I'm not getting carried away and I know it's early days but I have not reacted like this to treatment by any other anti-d. Btw, I'm sleeping ok though I'm on a small dose of Seroquil which I take at night which I was already taking to help with sleep whilst on those useless SSRIs. (I should note that the dose of 200mg Zoloft did help me come off Zanax. Even though I WAS in a zombie-like state on that dose I'm certain coming off 2-4mg of zanax a day was a good thing).

Re Nardil. I had my blood pressure checked after 12 days and it's spot on. Strange cause I thought the slight light-headedness may have been a bl press thing. I'll monitor longer term side effects like weight changes, etc and I'll report on this forum.

ONE COMMENT i MUST MAKE ON SSRIs
I was on on and off SSRIs for 20 years and they may dull thoughts to trick us into thinking we are not depressed. But they do not treat phobias and panic attacks and Chronic Anxiety Disorder.
Fearful thoughts with panic-like feelings ARE NOT IMPROVED OR LESSENED BY ANY FRIGGIN SSRI.
ALSO, WITH TERRIBLE WITHDRAWAL SYMPTOMS SUCH AS 'BRAIN SHOCKS or BRAIN FUZZ', DIZZY SPELLS, DRY MOUTH, CRYING FITS, AND SHAKING, (TO NAME A FEW), ONE CAN ONLY START BEING SAD, SCARED AND THEREFORE IN SOMEWAY DEPRESSED AGAIN, AND SO, DECEIPTFULLY, ONE Is PERSUADED TO CONTINUE TREATMENT WITH SSRIs. ONE, THAT IS, ME or I, AMAZINGLY FORGOT THAT ANXIETY WAS THE MAIN ISSUE THAT NEEDED TREATMENT, AND I BECOME SOMEHOW CONVINCED THAT DEPRESSION WAS THE MAJOR UNDERLYING CAUSE AND ANXIETY THE SYMPTOM.
NOT SO AT ALL.

Take care;
Phil
