I've never had any luck with exercise giving me a lasting benefit as an antidepressant. Some very short term benefits, but that's about it.

I'd gather that the more serious the mental illness, the less exercise helps, but that's only my thoughts. It has always baffled me how everybody says exercise helps depression yet one of the main components of my illness is significant psychomotor retardation. It makes it very difficult to do any more physical activity than is absolutely necessary.
