So as people here probably know, an extended release version of guanfacine is coming out in November called Intuniv, for ADHD.
Supposedly this will help not just hyperactivity, but inattentiveness too, which is my problem. (alpha-2a receptor agonist blah blah blah mechanism unknown blah blah blah)
Well, a few months ago, my pdoc agreed to let me try guanfacine... I found a compounding pharmacy that would make an extended release version.Well, sort of. It wasn't an all-day extended release, it was more like TID extended release.
I have tried it on and off for a few months. It seems like it works for about 15 minutes to 30 minutes per dose, then cr@ps out.
Of course I'm sure Shire's extended release technology is much better than my local mom and pop compounding pharmacy... so I have pretty good hopes for intuniv.I will get my hands on it as soon as it hits the market and I'll post my impressions of it.
Anyone else waiting with baited breath for this drug?
[You know... my memory is sort of terrible - I may have posted about my extended release guanfacine already - if so, apologies :) ]
