I think by cleanest BB meant that it is more selective, targeting one neurotransmitter. Lexapro, for example, is the cleanest of SSRIs because it only selectively inhibits the reuptake of serotonin, whereas Zoloft has some affinity for dopamine and norepinephrine. Prozac antagonizes the 5ht2c serotonin receptor, causing an increase in norepinephrine and dopamine in the prefrontal cortex(at least that is what I remeber). So you can see how some medications that are "dirtier" may work better because they are working on more neurotransmitters.
