In reply to seroquel and prozac, posted by markwell on June 24, 2009, at 15:04:33
> I went to my doctor today and he added 10mg of prozac to the 300mg of seroquel. Anyone have any experience with this combo. He thought about Zyprexa and prozac but he wants me to make small changes in meds. Do I take these together at night? Any input would be helpful. I tried prozac once and I only remember it keeping me awake.
I think your doctor deserves a pat on the back. That sounds like a good move. Other things I like about the way your doctor is thinking...
Zyprexa goes very well with Prozac. Excellent combination. He seems to be aware of that.
He is taking it in one step at a time.
He started you at 10mg instead of the usual 20mg.
He sounds like a good doctor to me. I would definitely keep your eye on Zyprexa and put that on the calendar for a near future date. In the meantime you could go to pubmed.com and type in the search box "fluoxetine olanzapine combination" and read all the studies. The efficacy of this combination is very respectable.
That combination kept me very well for 8 years before Lyme disease screwed things up. Excellent target doses to shoot for are 20mg prozac and 5mg zyprexa. Low risks, high efficacy, low side effects.
Seroquel is usually taken at night. Or split into more than one dose throughout the day. Whatever feels better to you. Prozac is usually dosed in the morning. But again, if you sleep better with it at night, take it at night. If it ruins your sleep at night, take it in the morning. It has a very long halflife of about a week, but the time of day you dose it still does make a difference.
When you are stable on prozac, you should be able to do a straight across switch to zyprexa without any cross-tapering or weaning.
