Why is cytomel is used to augment AD meds?

I have bipolar depression and OCD. As I've written before, I've been through an extraordinary number of meds over about 15 years of active treatment.
Recently, I was put on Cytomel 50mcg to augment Parnate and Xanax. My thyroid tests have always been within proper limits, and I basically don't understand what Cytomel will do for me. Does anyone have experience with this?
