I am having trouble locating a doctor in the Bay Area
that will give me a Nardil prescription.I have been taking 90mg/day for approximately one year.
There was another year period, about two years prior to
this one, where I took first 60, then 90, then 120mg/day.I am currently without someone that can prescribe the
medication. When I try to locate one, I encounter
resistance, complete ignorance about this drug, and
outright fear of the side effects. These doctors
went over some brief blurb about MAOIs way back when in
med school and basically think "why not just use SSRIs?
MAOIs are so dangerous." During the most recent attempt
that I made, the doctor threatened to withdraw my
medication if I did not prove I had already tried
SSRIs. My response was "thanks for your help doctor.
I'll locate another or stop," and the latter option is
not something I look forward to, so I need to find a
new doctor...First of all, I should not have any obligation to make
a new doctor privy to any old medical data, no matter
how recent. What is the problem with simple retelling
the issues along with the fact that Nardil has been a
panacea for me, and answering any questions the doctor
has? Should this not be sufficient to obtain a
prescription? I have detailed knowledge of the drug and
its effects -- often more than my doctors,
frighteningly -- and it should be obvious that I am
telling the truth and know what the hell I am talking
about. Right?Secondly, the data this doctor attempted to force me to
obtain is old and there is no way I can get these
records. This is not the first time this has
happened...each new doctor I get, I have to fight for
(1) use or Nardil at all, (2) pills per refill period
and (3) how to take it.With a doctor that already knew about Nardil, I would
not have to deal with any of these issues. The reason
I have to deal with new doctors all the time is that
(1) I am a poor student, (2) I am uninsured, (3) I
cannot afford my own medication, so I have to deal with
public health entities. I am willing to pay for it
myself if I can just find a doctor that will give me
the prescription and not trip on 120mg, which is what I
used to take before I finally found my "plateau" level.
Of all the doctors I have seen over this past year,
100% of them refused to give me over 90mg, citing the
fact that it's the maximum suggested dosage given on
Pfizer's boilerplate marketing description of Nardil. Please help! I need to find a doctor that is (1) in the
bay area, (2) has prior experience with MAOIs, (3) is
not an idiot, (4) will not balk at a 120mg/mo dosage,
or would be willing after some period at 90 to raise,
(5) will believe what his patient tells him!!!Now, this doctor will have to have some sort of sliding
scale or something...or be willing to see me a few
times and then just every 6 months for half an hour or
something. I can't pay out of pocket for both the meds
and once a week with a $200/session shrink.Anyone know of someone? There are 9 millions or so in
the Bay Area, is there at least one reasonable doctor
that can help me with my Nardil prescription? Thanks greatly for any suggestions or help.
