It can and does cause insomnia.
That said, when I woke at 3am feeling the usual NE crap (that's what I think it is) I took 2.5mg Valium.
At 4am nothing much had happened on the sleep front so I took a Trivastal and a Hydergine.
As expected the Trivastal did nothing quickly and the Hydergine lessened the NE thing and I got back into a light sleep, getting up at 6am.
I can't imagine anyone here would think it is an effective AD. But for decades now it has reliably improved the way I feel (which is almost unique when it comes to psych drugs).
I take the 4.5mg tablets and dissolve them under my tongue.
The most I have ever had was 22.5mg/d (maybe once? anyway it was too much).
There is nasal/sinus congestion as an effect, which is something I have to watch out for.
There days I just take 4.5mg in the morning.
If I didn't drink alcohol or green tea my sleep would no doubt improve.
But I get to the end of the day and need a drink, then I sleep badly (which may or may not have anything to do with the alcohol) and when I get up I drink buckets of tea to wake up.I'd advise 4.5 or 9mg/d.
If you sleep well, you could take more.
But I wouldn't be taking it before bed.Anything that makes one feel better has the potential to be pro-social.
The action is, as I read once
NE-
DA+
5HT+But it is the dopamine that is noticeable.
