In reply to Wrong Diagnoses In Patients Admitted to Hospitals, posted by Phillipa on October 20, 2008, at 13:11:02
One comment again, Jan, I hate to be critical -- its nice to post information but that's the entire article and it also includes the ads.
Why not post a snippet and include the URL? If it asks to register, I'm sure you can explain -- not all articles on WebMD/eMedicine/etc are "registered articles".
As for the study, well its only 100 patients -- so that has to take into account that it is a small study. It would be misleading to generalize then that this is the APA's entire opinion, which I doubt.
I'm sure patients are misdiagnosed in hospitals, especially mood disorders which are hard to pin down if they have comorbid conditions.
Ultimately there isn't an exact diagnosis for anyone, there can be a general consensus from a team of doctors -- I think it helps to be admitted to a hospital tied to a teaching university where there are residents who have seen some patterns in patients in their shifts.-- tidings
