Like AndrewB, temoigneur, and a few others, memantine as adjunct to my amphetamine has worked well to delay tolerance to the amphetamine's mood-boosting and motivational effects.
I have been using the two together for eight weeks.
I have been doing tremendously well, better than ever, with a great diminishment of my symptoms -- social phobia, anhedonia, loss of motivfation, poor focus, depression, etc.
I can answer questions on this if anyone likes.
It is not a total panacea. I take 40 mg of memantine (30 in the morning, 10 in the evening) and 60mg Vyvanse + 1-2 doses of 5mg dextroamphetamine in the evening. I still notice a little tolerance, although very very little after I added the 10mg evening dose of memantine. Taking one day weekly off works well.
I also take Periactin (cyproheptadine) as a very effective sleep aid.
I have some concerns about a possible loss of cognitive flexibility/creativity and some tendencies towards perseverative behavior with my dextroamphetamine treatment ... I think actually that these are actually less of a problem with nucleus accumbens dopamine release apparently preserved, than they would be without the memantine, but I am considering adding adjunct guanfacine or ... daily low-dose LSD to see if either assists with this.
