Hello, im 28 and am struggling with what medications would help me - as ive already been through a whole bunch. Recently I added concerta to the prozac ive been taking for a while and have noticed a tremendous benefit...my social anxiety has decreased dramatically and my ability to communicate and express my thoughts has increased. So, now i think i may have both...what dr amen calls "overfocused add". Recently, a psychiatrist suggested to get off the stimulant med because he did not think i had ADD and recommended it was more anxiety and that i should try either gabapentin or risperidone. So i tried the gabapentin for a week..and did not notice any benefit...then i tried risperidone for 1 month..first at 1 g and then reduced it because of side effects to half 0.25 mg per day.
I still find side effects hard to tolerate, although i havnt had much experience on the 0.25 mg....i still find myself very dizzy, confused, with vision changes. However, my obsessions have decreased, my moods generally been more positive and my energy has increased- although im still a bit paranoid from the dizziness and confusion side effects. Im not sure whats better- taking the risperdal and having side effects or going off and staying on prozac and concerta where i have increased obsessions and fatigue...
i was thinking about stopping the risperdal and taking a mood stabalizer instead since these have been proven to help ocd and racing thoughts in some cases. And perhaps they wont cause the dizzy side effects/ vision changes that risperdal does. Any thoughts anyone??
