Somewhat funny true-life story:
I had hayfever when I was a teenager. I had been given every kind of antihistamine & none seemed to work. This was just before the newer non-sedating ones were developed. Anyway, so the doc gave me these little blue ones one day called phenergan. On the way to school in the morning I took 3. An hour later I was fighting to stay awake. I snuck out of school & went home - just made it..!
I flaked on my bed & luckily nobody else was home. I woke up about 4pm. My first official drug induced knockout, albeit unintentionally.
BTW, I've also heard of parents giving this to their kids when they're sick & just can't sleep and also on long plane trips to knock 'em out. ;) So that suggests it's relatively safe.
Hmmm....on the other hand, I recall my mother telling me that when she was a child, you'd give your baby a few drops of laudanum to help it sleep. If you don't know what that is, it'll amuse you looking it up.. ;)
