Im never really maniac or hypomaniac i fit more into the mixed state category of crushing depression, irritability, anxiety, panic, generally freaking the hell out over minor things and of course paranoia.I do think it's reasonable to suggest Abilify, although there may be some reasons that it's less appropriate for you. I think if I were feeling up to offering anyone any advice today, my advice would be to ask your doctor why he's suggesting Seroquel instead, and whether Abilify might be a better choice, based on your concerns about your health. (Those are valid concerns, and if I were facing that sort of situation with my own doctor, I'd certainly ask what he suggested to offset the risks involved. Then again, I'd be asking that to assess whether or not to fire my doctor...)
Abilify can cause some increased agitation, increased anxiety like symptoms for some people. That may be part of why your doctor didn't choose it for you. Then again, it could just be that he's got more experience with Seroquel, and so starts there out of habit. Asking why he's recommending the one might lead to a productive discussion with him.
Best luck to you.
