> Does anyone know the wash out period for Remeron? I have been on it for almost a year now, I worked great for the first 6 months and now it's not working well. I was prescribed remeron due to insomnia and very mild depression, I have been 30mg and would like to taper off. I was interested in taking something natural ei: st.john's wort instead since my depression is very mild. Any suggestions / experiences on how I should do the switch with little to no side-effects?
Mary Jo,
As one who is currently tapering Remeron, I recommend that you do it very slowly. The recommended schedule on the Paxil Progress Board is 10% of the current dose every 3 to 6 weeks.
I tried to go slightly faster and paid dearly for it. So until I get my digital jewelry scale, which will enable me to accurately measure the cuts, I am not making any further ones. You can get one on ebay by the way.
The reason for the slow schedule is your brain needs the time to make the necessary neurochemical changes. You might be one of the lucky ones who can taper more quickly but you won't know until it is too late.
Hope this helps.
