I guess the conclusion one arrives at depends on whether or not they respond to it.
L-methylfolate (Deplin) is the bioactive form of folate that travels with ease across the blood-brain barrier. Folic acid is not bioactive. Nor does it enter the brain readily. Deplin is more of a drug than it is a supplement. "Medical Food"? It gets pretty confusing trying to find a place for Deplin in the pharmacopeia. Even so, the stuff seems to work for some people. Among the things left to discover about Deplin are the best dosing strategy and whether of not there is a "poop-out" phenomenon. Hopefully, a pattern of responsivity will emerge that indicates who is most likely to respond to Deplin and with what drugs it combines best.
