My pdoc thinks it is because of the remeron but also thinks that if I reduce the dose I may lose the antidepressant effect. Anybody have any experience reducing remeron? I'm thinking of dropping back to the 30mg dose but I don't know if that is too big a reduction to make all at once.

I had a dreadful time on Remeron. My main problems are GAD, panic phobia and depression. The Remeron helped my depression, but just made my anxiety far worse - especially at 45mg doses (I guess due to the effect the drug has on Noradrenaline re-uptake at higher doses).I was on Remeron for about three months - it gave me a ravenous appetite; made me aggressive (especially at higher doses); rapidly increased my racing thoughts; and made my anxiety and panic attacks far worse.
Some people on here seem to do really well on it, but for me it's a drug that I won't even be going near again. I've now switched to Cipralex, so hopefully that will do what the Remeron failed to do!
