Doctors hand out antipsychotics like candy these days. They are powerful meds and can cause serious withdrawals, especially when stopped cold turkey instead of slow weaning. The good news is there is light at the end of the tunnel. Sounds like your family doc is on a better track than the other one.
This will take time though. I think it would be setting oneself up for grief if one were to expect to see real improvements tomorrow or next week. Realistically they will probably occur slowly, gradually, in a subtle fashion that is almost undetectable from day to day, but after a few weeks or a couple months you realize the trauma is behind you and things are looking a lot better than they were back then.
If you ever need to stop a medication in the future, please visit the Withdrawal board here to ask how to do it slowly in small steps. Doing a slow wean removes a good deal of the trauma you have experienced.
