In reply to Anyone Like and Have Deplin Working for Them?, posted by Phillipa on January 18, 2008, at 12:45:45
Hi Phillipa. A few posters (Henryo, Scott, Fan, etc.) have mentioned that they have benefited from Deplin. Merck certainly thinks it works. There is also a theoretical basis for thinking that it *should* work for some people. As with all psychotropics, your mileage may vary. But clearly, some people benefit substantially. You may be one of them. I suppose you won't know until you try it for a few weeks and see what happens.
I don't think Deplin is dangerous, certainly no more so than many other psychotropics, and probably no more than Valium or Luvox. If I were using Deplin, however, I would also take a vitamin B12 supplement, since it is known that folic acid may mask signs of vitamin B12 deficiency. I don't know whether Deplin carries that same risk, since it is not quite the same as folic acid, but that's what I would do, to be on the safe side, until I have better information available to me.
So if I were in your position, I would try the Deplin for a few months, and see what happens. If it doesn't work, then you've lost a couple of bucks. If it works, then at least some your problems are solved, and you can carry on using it, and maybe supplement with vitamin B12.
