Taking a propranalol prophylactically is a good idea, but I'd also recommend learning some relaxation techniques that work for you.
One that works for me is to open my hip angle and count while breathing deeply. So, what does it mean to open one's hip angle? If you're sitting in an old fashioned straight chair, and lean forward over your thighs with your back straight, you're closing your hip angle. It's pretty common to start closing your hip angle when you get tense -- it protects your abdomen. Opening it again helps you relax.
For breathing, I count -- slowly -- "in-two-three-four, out-two-three-four" over and over, until I can get my nerves back under control. Counting helps me, I think because it stops the racing, panicky thoughts.
I'm sorry that happened to you, Deneb. I hope it gets better.
