antidepressants and CRH/aldosterone/k+ levels

Posted by James R on November 26, 2007, at 15:44:04

Hi,

I read that antidepressants reduce CRH (cortocotropin releasing hormone) levels.

Since CRH throttles aldosterone production which
in turn affects potassium absorbtion in the kidneys, is it the case that a properly functioning antideppressant will
lower basal potassium levels? Could the lowered potassium levels fight back somehow to prevent hypokalemia (low potassium absorbtion)?

James
