Buspar was not good for me - it gave me complete loss of appetite & nausea. I'm not sure how common this side effect is.

However it was NOTHING like an SSRI. It lifted my mood very little (if at all) but I believe it did help my anxiety a little - I became pretty chatty on it - good for a social phobe like me.

Mirtazapine is another option that has serotonergic effects. Many people find it far too sedating at any dose whilst others seem to tolerate it better.

Tianeptine, a so called Selective Serotonin Reuptake Enhancer (SSRE) is said to be a very good antidepressant AND anxiolytic. It works in the exact opposite way to SSRIs, which MAY be especially usefull in your case. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tianeptine
The site above reports one case of mania, but you are on a mood stabilizer, right?
