In reply to prozac keeping me awake, posted by Happyflower3 on September 24, 2007, at 15:16:21
That's EXACTLY what happened to me when I found a drug that helped me (in my case an MAOI). My experience is that you just have to deal with it.
It sounds like you don't have a 9 to 5 job which is a major blessing.
Anyway, my solution was to try to get to bed early (meaning 12 or 12.30), take benzo's/Ambien/Lunesta/whatever every other night or so -- and I have to take triple the recommended dose. Then, if I was awake I'd work or do whatever. I did and still do take a nap when I'm sleepy. Screw the clock; if I'm sleepy I go to sleep; if I can't go to sleep, I take a pill; if I wake up after 5 hours of sleep, I get up and go to it!
And one other thing. Don't EVER take steroids unless you'll die without them. I took them for a week once (to clear my sinuses for an MRI) and averaged maybe 2-3 hours of sleep per night. I was an absolute wreck and freaked out so badly during the MRI they could hardly even finish it.
> am feeling much better on Prozac now, I am not requiring as much sleep as before. But now I am having trouble getting to sleep and staying asleep. Then during the day I NEED a nap, but that is a catch 22 because then I can't sleep at night. It is after midnight before I get to sleep and then I wake up at 5am! ick! I am always someone who needed there 8 hours, so 5 can't be enough for me.

> One positive side effect is that I seem so much more creative than before. Maybe because I am not sleeping so much, and am awake. lol.
