In reply to anyone have similar problems?, posted by nellie7 on August 2, 2007, at 11:01:55
It could be a lot of things. To me, it does sound like some combo of OCD and ADD symptoms, possibly even anxiety. I know folks who can only focus on one aspect of life because introducing the others, even on lighter levels, starts to stress the hell out of them.
Careful though, the CNS stims used for ADHD can make OCD symptoms worse.
I've been Dx'd as ADHD, but I certainly don't have anything akin to racing thoughts, but I am incredibly scattered and am always going off on tangents (not in the psychiatric sense) in my conversations or thought-trains.
ADHD symptoms can be caused by a multitude of things- before seeking out a medication, I'd look at everything else you can. Lack of exercise, lack of sleep, sleep apnea, nutritional problems (not enough of certain aminos or vitamins) are the first things that come to my mind, but I'm sure there are others I'm not thinking of. Without knowing more it's hard to really say, but it surprises me how many people don't realize how important getting consistently good sleep is, esp when it comes to ADHD symptoms in everyone.
To me, the focusing on a single aspect seems more like strong OCD with weaker anxiety, ADHD or Asperger's-like symptoms. Not saying it's a combo of all those things, but combining OCD with another one of those things could result in the kinds of symptoms you've described... Perhaps you could be more in depth, or maybe someone else will show who has had a similar deal.
