If he is then just some standard more stimulating anti depressants, hence nora-reuptake inhibitor.
As for taurine,it has many many jobs, but the ones we here would look at most likly are the fact it is a amino acid that DOES CROSS into the brain,it has a nerve stablizing effect,so its somewhat of a natural mood stablizer, and since it helps nerves from over firing and nerve cell death its considered NUEROPROTECTIVE.
Also it indirectly helps increase gaba as whole.Kinda like a natural lamictal kinda.
Some people find it helpful for anxiety, mood, ocd, etc,
Me,unfortunatly most over the counter stuff i find best at maybe adding to a drug.Alone natural remiedies usualy do nothing but make me worse.
Just remember it is natural, but still crosses the brain, and for some it can either make you more depressed,or angry,or stuck on stupid.
When supplementing aminos your no longer using it natural,so its recomended most amino treatments are cycled, unless you have a KNOWN deficiency you are tested on at a docs.
