I've taken both. Of the two, Cymbalta was definitely friendlier for me -- and there was virtually no discontinuation syndrome. (ahem) I tapered from 60 to 40 to 20, then stopped -- no problem.

Energy? Hm... I can't really remember, but I was also taking other drugs which interfered with energy. Mostly anxiolytics, which increased my depression and sapped my will to move. Effexor, as I recall, left me feeling half awake all the time, so it was definitely bettr than that.

This is only my opinion, and based solely on my own experience, but I think it's worth a try. I didn't want to try it, because of its similarity to Effexor, but was very glad i did.
