I can't tell you why Xanax help with depression. I wonder the same thing, but it does help me. While Klonopin caused depression.
I can't find an AD I tolerate and I have anxiety. If I told my doctor I wanted to stay on Xanax long term because it made me happy, I think it would be taken away (oh wait, it already has, with the substitution of XR, which I feel acts like a combo of Xanax IR and Klonopin... without relieving axiety, thus, it causes a little depression I feel.)
