"Over the last 40 years, the numbers of people suffering with and dying from mental illnesses, such as depression and schizophrenia, have not been reduced."

"In stark contrast, over the same period, there has been a huge reduction in deaths from diseases such as stroke and heart disease, through prevention and treatment.

Why is there such a difference between diseases of the body and those of the mind? A main problem is that mental disorders are diagnosed late in the disease process when symptoms become apparent, leading to a poor prognosis."

For one thing, psychiatry is NOT a science. I am truly beginning to believe that these drugs are no answer, as seen above; they can make people worse or not help at all in many cases; some day people will look back in horror at the drugs they have prescribed for mentally suffering people, just as many are horrified over the lobotomies etc. in the 40's and 50's.

I am beginning to truly believe for me anyway that my spirituality (faith and dedication to God) is the answer more than any drug or humanistic counseling session.
