In biological terms an emotion is defined as the mental state that is automatically generated in the brain in response to an event. It is directed at something specific, and it has to be accompanied by a physiological response in autonomic nervous system- say heart rate changes, changes in blood flow etc. (A feeling would be the mental state that arises after you have processed the emotion cognitively/ consciously). A mood is a a state of mind, and it can consist of a mixture of emotions- it's a reflection of your predominant emotional experience at a particular time.
