It has absolutely nothing to do with the metabolizm as the amphetamine isnt even active. What EMSAM does do is block MAO-B inhibition which causes higher levels of dopamine in your frontal cortex. Thats the goal of AD/HD stimunlants also. I've thought for years EMSAM would be a great canidate for AD/HD treatment its just the development took so long and it ended up being priced originally at $450. It just wasnt good for the AD/HD market.
I recall a study of children in israel comparing ritalin and EMSAM and EMSAM was the preferred treatment. So there is some studies going on its just taking a while.
If i hadnt got dexedrine when i did EMSAM was my secondary choice.
