What's weird is that I didn't really have any symptoms - at least that I was aware of. The only thing I noticed after I started on the Synthroid was that it was easier to drop a few pounds when I needed to. Other than that I was pretty much asymptomatic. I read that there's a small percentage like me. And the only reason I had it checked at all was because 15 years earlier some doc ran routine blood work and told me I should watch it. So much for watching it every 15 years - but hey - at least I found it.
I've never seen an endo - but I would in a heartbeat if I thought it would help. I think I'm adequately medicated though - and since I was NOT depressed when I was diagnosed as hypothyroid, I don't think my depression is linked to it (aside from the fact that it's being treated).
Any teaching hospitals in your region? That's a good source even if only for a referral. My regular doc is an internist - and she's the one that found my pdoc. I have to drive an hour to see him but it's worth it. The only pdocs in town are not very good.
Good luck with your search.
